This Inca Chess set depicting the Incas against the Spaniards is handmade by Palemon Cuno Surco. He is from a small village near Cusco, Peru and one of the few artisans in that area devoted to making this style of Inca and pre-Inca inspired pottery. The designs and many of the forms of pottery that he makes are inspired by pieces currently housed in museums in the Cusco area. Palemon makes all of the pieces in his workshop. The process he uses combines clay with volcanic ash. He fires the pieces in an open pit oven and then delicately paints on the intricate geometric designs with acrylic paint.
The hand-painted pieces are rich with color and the attention to detail will amaze you! Each board closes securely and holds all pieces inside for easy storage. A one-of-a-kind chess set for you or that special chess player in your life!
